Blangah Rise Primary School

These are pictures of the Blangah Rise Primary School.  There are about 900 students in grades 1 through 6 in this school.  One class of students in grade two, taught by Ms. Helen Ong, has started a pen pal letter writing program with children in Houston, Texas, one of whom is my niece.  The kids are great, and one thing is for sure…. Kids are universally the same.

This is the class of second graders.  I think I should have taken more pictures.  Trying to get them all to sit still at the same time is an (impossible) undertaking.  They were all exceptionally polite.  The all rose when I entered the class, turned to me, and in unison said, “Good afternoon, Mr. Wayne.”

This is a very attractive, multi story school which is built on a hill.  Thus the school has classrooms on several levels.  There are fountains and fish, gardens, and wall murals.  These pictures are taken at various places around the school.

Providing children with good values and the essentials for a successful life is important to the teachers at Blangah Rise

Singlish is a slang type of English, quite popular in Singapore, and very often extremely hard to understand.  The teachers here work to eliminate its use, just as other parts of Singapore try to reduce it usage in the adult population.

And finally, a parting shot as I walk back to the main street after my visit.
